He earned All American awards and helped lead his team to two NAIA World Series National Championships. In 1988 he was drafted by the San Francisco Gians and began a 13 year professional baseball career. He has played at the major league level for the San Francisco Giants, Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies and most recently, the Anaheim Angels. Coach Decker's primary position had been working behind the plate as a catcher. Further into his baseball career, Coach Decker continued to round out his baseball credentials playing first and third base.
When Coach Decker's professional competition days were over, he and his family settled in the Salem/Keizer area. However, he still continues to be involved with professional baseball. He is currently an instructor for the San Francisco Giant organization.
His commitment to baseball comes from a long lasting dedication to the sport. He is active as a spokesman and clinic instructor for many Pacific Northwest youth programs. He also provides instruction for teams and individual ballplayers who wish to advance their skill levels.
On Deck Baseball Instruction provides player evaluation by guaging each player's ability and skill level. Then, a specific, individual program is developed to maximize a player's potential.
